Poetry

“Struggles” –Tucker Wallace

The moth fights, he struggles
Wrestling, wriggling, wanting to be free
The cocoon’s grip holds, almost cuddles
Lulling its victim into false security

The struggle encompasses, defines
All he sees, all he will become
Trapped in darkness, lost, hope declines
Yet past the present, hope, light will come

In this moment, true character shown
So easy to miss one’s destined way
Whether to fight, totally alone
Or become the cocoon’s eternal prey.

“Birds” –Tucker Wallace

Much like the bird in the egg
People must leave the obscurity
Break the shell and leave their security
Risk life and health to grow in maturity

Much like the bird in the nest
People lay in need
Asking for help, while they, indeed
Forget of their feat, they did in previous succeed

Much like the bird shoved out of the nest
People have wings, though unused
And unless forced, sometimes bruised
These wings lay useless, never to be proved

Love it, Tucker! Your "Birds" poem reminds me a little of the Badly Drawn Boy song, "Holy Grail." One of my favorite lyrics from that song: "You forgot you've got oxygen running through your veins."

One of my favorite lines from your poem, "Birds" is, "Forget of their feat, they did in previous succeed." I love it, because it is so easy to forget our past successes when up against new challenges.
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed reading them.

WOW! Tucker! When did you become a poet? These are great. I was going to say I relate most to "Struggles"..... but the truth is I see myself in both, and wonder if I have yet broken free of the cocoon, or used my wings. I appreciate the food for thought.
