55 Plus Hours in the Car... Over 3500 Miles... and 11 States...Within 8 Days

Taysom started BYU-Idaho on January 2nd, 2012.  Since we had to get her to Idaho, we decided to make a family trip out of it.  So after dinner on December 26th we packed up the 12 year old van and set off on a week long adventure.  It wasn't until New Mexico that we hit some snowy roads and below zero temperatures.  Thankfully, the van handled the roads without incidence.  As the sun started rising, we were surrounded by beautiful snowy landscapes... and MOUNTAINS!

When we were about an hour from Globe, Mike thought we'd better call Chad and Megan to let them know when we would arrive.  We couldn't find their phone number so Mike called his mom.  When she started singing "Happy Birthday" to him, it dawned on us that it was Dec. 27th.  Ooops!  My brain only had room for Christmas/college/trip preparations.  (Don't worry we have repented and made up for it since then.)

We haven't seen Chad, Megan, Bree, and Mason since our Colorado trip so we were more than excited for our first stop in Globe, AZ.  I have been itching to get my hands on little Lincoln (or Lincoln Log as Mike likes to call him) since he was born.

 Check out his beautiful grin:

 and piercing eyes:

Lincoln isn't so sure of Ilah here, but...
 he warmed up to her!

He gave us lots of kisses... almost as many as we gave to him.

Bree snuggled right up to Tucker.

And Mason couldn't wait to show us all of his cool toys and play with Henry.

We spent some time at the park riding bikes...

and playing basketball and whiffle ball.

Megan and I enjoyed visiting and looking after Lincoln :)

Chad led us in scripture study that night.

And Mike helped the kids find Waldo.

My favorite picture from this part of our trip:
 ~a mother's tender love~

After a good night's rest (which was sorely needed), Chad and Megan fed us a big breakfast, and it was time for the second leg of our trip - Las Vegas... but not until Tucker got in some Lincoln time.

The trip to Vegas was only 6 hours - a short jaunt compared to the 16 hours from Joplin to Globe.

The weather was perfect - didn't seem like winter at all.  In fact, Sydney took us up to Red Rock for a hike with Shea and Nathan and some of their friends.

I love these people!!!!!!

We spend lots of time hanging out with the cousins:

 Shea - I caught a great smile :)
 Nathan and Tucker
Nathan and Henry (wrestling... lots of wrestling between the four boys!)
 Tucker and Shea

 Tucker and Nathan

(love this one - probably favorite from this leg of the trip)

 Princess Abby

 Aren't they adorable???

 ~Cousins are the best~
 Grandpa, Mike and Ilah

 Grandma and Ilah

(Isn't it great how Grandpa and Mike can continue their conversation no matter what...)

Taysom is taller than Grandma!
Shea trying to get free.

 Uncle Mike got you, Nathan.

We even got to meet Trust, Rachel and Jeremy's little guy.  He is adorable!

 Abby holding Trust.

 Grandma feeding Trust.

 Jeremy and Trust

I hope these cousins always enjoy spending time together.  After a couple of nights in Vegas, we headed to St. George - a quick hour and a half drive away (see next post).

Loved the family group shot on the hike! And it was great to get caught up with the Wallace side of your family through pictures. But the most impressive image was the map!
