17 Years

About 23 years ago I met someone who made me feel incredibly good about myself. This person balanced out my high strung personality with his laid back, mellow attitude. He managed to get past all of my FLAWS and find some things he liked about me. He became my best friend, my biggest support, and my husband (17 years ago - April 10, 1992).

Has it really been 17 years?

Mike and I haven't been the best example when it comes to celebrating our anniversary. As most of you know, Tucker was born 3 years into our marriage on our anniversary, and well... our anniversary is often pushed to a later date and then forgotten as life continues to rush by at lightning speed. This year wasn't any different. We are planning on doing something at a later date - nothing extravagant. We're pretty simple. Of course someday I hope we get to do something extravagant... maybe on our 25th anniversary...

Mike has so many wonderful qualities I often feel inadequate, but he makes me laugh EVERY day. Most of the time it is a shake the body guffaw, laugh until you cry laugh. I need that almost like I need air to breathe. So when he does things I don't appreciate, my famous saying is, "It's a good thing you make me laugh!"
And it is :)

One of my mom and dad's "songs" was by the Oakridge Boys called, "Little Things":

It's the way you kiss me when we're walkin' down the street
It's the words you whisper when we're driftin' off to sleep
A certain way you touch me, the way you say "hello"
Baby it's the little things that make me love you so.

The way you pour your coffee in the early mornin' light
The way you call my name out in the middle of the night
How you sit for hours singin' with the radio
Baby it's the little things that make me love you so.

It's not the memories or all that we've been through
It's not the distant dreams that keep me coming back to you
It's not the promises that keep me warm at night
It's just the every day, it's just the safe and sound, it's just our home sweet home.

And when we're old and gray now and the kids have gone away
We're alone together I may turn to you and say
There's something I forgot to tell you and by now I think you'll know
Baby it's the little things that make me love you so.
Woah woah, Baby it's the little things that make me love you so.

Walkin' in the park, kissin' in the dark
The little things that baby makes me feel alright now
Baby it's the little things that make me love you
Baby it's the little things that make me love you so

So True!!!!!!

17 of the "little things" I love about Mike:
1. his sense of humor
2. when he sings (esp. when it's just to me)
3. when he tickles the back of my arms or scratches my back
4. his laugh
5. the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles
6. when he plays catch with the boys or basketball or any sport
7. that he cooks for me EVERY day!!!!!
8. his willingness to do the late night pick ups
9. when he teaches us at scripture study time OR listening to his lessons if/when I get lucky at church.
10. when he writes me notes
11. his before school stop in my room for a hug
12. his creative intelligent mind
13. his patience
14. his arm around my back when we're sitting in the pew at church
15. that when he sets his mind to do something, there is no stopping him.
16. his clicking noise that he makes right before he is about to say something important/ interesting that he's been thinking about
17. that he loves me and our family!

It's just the every day, it's just the safe and sound, it's just our home sweet home.
Baby it's the little things that make me love you so.

Happy 17th Anniversary, baby!
I love you!!!!!!!

That kind of post on your blog is the bestest gift to Mike from you of all. Who needs diamonds when you got words like those?

Parents pray that their children will find a wonderful mate and be forever blessed and find joy.

My prayers have been answered!
